dear son of memory

Inspired by Swiss artist, Annelies Strba, this piece was written to her characters unableto escape their dreams. Played by pianist Salome Scheidegger.

Harriman-Baines

Harriman-Baines was produced by On the Brink Production and was apart of Theatre for the New City's Dream Up festival Summer 2013. Directed by Charles Giardina and written by Colin Speer Crowley. When hermetic, superstar musician Carter Harriman is finally sought out by an opportunistic reporter eager for a scoop, his world of self-imposed isolated slowly implodes. Harriman-Baines is a story about love, loneliness and obsession, by turns caustically funny and heart-wrenchingly poignant.

Englishman from Canton, 1843

All text for this non-pitched vocal piece comes directly from primary sources written before the First Opium War in nineteenth-century China. They were written by S. Wells Williams, Karl Gutzlaff and Viceroy Kang Yu. I had the privilege of encountering these documents (at the special collections of Middlebury College, Columbia's Burke Library and the Hong Kong University Library) whilst writing my thesis on missionaries and trade in early-mid nineteenth-century China.
